Spirituality and/or spiritual practices can be a dynamic and extremely positive component of mental healthcare…helping optimize mental health.  Lisa Miller, PhD reports on research in her 2021 book, The Awakened Brain, noting that dedication to spiritual practices measurably changes the structure of the brain and brainwave patters making us much less prone to depression.  Spirituality heals!  It also strengthens our ability to perceive and orient in the world, and see ourselves clearly.

As we expand awareness through spiritual practices we grow.  That's the process of spiritual "emergence".  When we join others in mutual support the process of emergence can be gentle and easy--bringing us gradually into deeper peace and feelings of profound fulfillment.

Format:

  • A 67 minute, pre-recorded webinar with colorful slides with Emma Bragdon, PhD
  • A 5 minute interview with Lisa Miller, PhD

Your Takehome:

You will learn 10 ways to bring spirituality into mental healthcare.  You will learn about a 100+ year old tradition in Brazil and an ancient tradition in India used for over 1,000 years.  Both are effective models we can learn from to inspire positive changes in our own lives.

You will learn the healing power of :

  • Getting support from  peer specialists,
  • Education about spiritual practices like meditation and prayer,
  • Meeting in facilitated groups to discuss themes related to spirituality, the purpose of life, the experience of death,
  •  Energy work,
  • Learning how to support spiritual evolution in yourself and others.

Using spirituality in mental healthcare assists in getting to the real cause of mental disturbance–which western, conventional psychiatry is still unable to pinpoint.

You may be inspired to bring this multi-cultural knowledge of the power of spirituality to your own community –or simply use it to improve your own wellbeing.

REVIEWS

  1. “The webinar was wonderful. The straightforward approach to delivering challenging concepts balanced by supporting an Optimal Wellness potential, the whole person paradigm, is so key to redefining the normal that has been standardized…people want to know where they’re going and what that looks like. The Spiritism metaphysical and existential meaning of illness as an opportunity to becoming more loving and wise, can only be a huge relief to those grasping at straws to make meaning of their mental or physical pain.”– Terry Monell, MA
