Stress in USA Measured

Stress in the United States is at an all-time high, according to a poll conducted on behalf of the American Psychological Association (APA).
Poll Shows Stress in US at All Time High
The poll showed that the top sources of stress were inflation, supply chain issues, global uncertainty, and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Two years into a global pandemic, 63% of adults surveyed said their lives had been changed forever due to COVID-19. 87% were stressed due to price increases, 80% due to the war in Ukraine, and a further 80% feared retaliation from Russia.
Behavior Changes
47% of respondents said they have become less active since the start of the pandemic, and 58% experienced unwanted changes to their weight. 23% said they were drinking more alcoholic beverages during the pandemic.
Coping Skills vs Stress
Dr. Carla Marie Manly recommends four-count breathing to downregulate the nervous system. For relationship strain — which 58% of those surveyed experienced — she recommends regular “quiet time” with partners and reaching out for professional support rather than waiting until issues feel unresolvable.
