What is Spiritual Emergence Coach® Training?
Spiritual Emergence Coach® training and certification by IMHU gives a person both knowledge and skills in how to best support individuals feeling overwhelmed and disoriented by intense spiritual experiences. The courses cover understanding of the territory of both spiritual emergence and emergency: what catalyzes the experience, what it feels like, how to accurately recognize it, and how it is often mis-diagnosed as mental illness. 24.5 CE credits are available.
Students learn what kind of care is most effective in supporting someone in achieving the profound peace and satisfaction that can be the outcome of any spiritual awakening process. It’s very different from the care typically given to someone who is emotionally disturbed as it rarely involves medications of any kind. Learning the skills for effective spiritual emergence/y support is qualitatively different.
Who can become a Spiritual Emergence Coach®?
Professionals
If you are a licensed social worker, therapist, nurse, holistic practitioner, or MD: Becoming certified will:
- Extend your knowledge and skills to more effectively help clients and patients manage spiritual emergency (disorientation from spiritually-transformative experiences).
- Significantly finetune your abilities for assessment so as not to confuse spiritual emergency with serious mental illnesses.
- Meet the need for qualified support brought on by the growing interest in psychedelics and plant medicines.
Professionals

Individuals with lived-experience who become certified can:
- Effectively support individuals trying to integrate intense spiritually-transformative experiences by learning how to facilitate a support group for these individuals.
- Provide meaningful and safe connection which is stabilizing and affirmative to each participant helping each person in the group be part of a community and normalizing the experiences.
- Help create an international network of safety nets, online or on location, for those in the process of integration throughout the world.
