NAMI was founded in 1977. They offer support groups and education for free to all touched by mental health issues. Currently one in five people in the USA suffer from a mental health issue–NAMI is often called on for help by those who can’t afford psychotherapists.
NAMI is affiliated with 700 groups throughout the USA. They recognize that the key concepts of recovery, resiliency and support are essential to improving the wellness and quality of life of all persons affected by mental distress. As a national group all who are affiliated tend to support a bio-medical approach to overcoming mental health issues.

Recognizing Spiritual Experiences
It was a surprise to recently find that NAMI created and disseminated information about spiritual emergence and emergency in 2011. This was done within articulating the need for sensitivity to cultural diversity. I hope that their information can be widely spread so increasing numbers of the public can recognize spiritual emergence phenomena.
