To share my background and experience with spiritual emergence, I have to begin with my childhood. I grew up in a multigenerational family home just south of Boston, Massachusetts, rooted in both Irish and Sicilian heritage. Early in life, I experienced the sudden loss of a parent—a profound event that impacted my family. In response, some of my relatives turned to Catholicism as a way of finding healing and meaning. While religion offered me some comfort in my grief as a child, I also found myself questioning and distrusting many of its oppressive structures—those that seemed to distort its original spiritual essence and intentions toward compassion, community, and social good.
Throughout my life, I’ve redefined and reclaimed my own spiritual experiences, often keeping them close to my heart. Some were deeply powerful and difficult to describe—moments that my family, at times, struggled to understand.
These experiences are what make my work as a spiritual emergence and emergency coach so deeply meaningful to me. I know firsthand how isolating these transformative states can be, and how challenging it is to find the right kind of support.
As a psychotherapist, I help others navigate their own times of need using evidence-based, scientifically grounded practices that I believe in wholeheartedly. Yet within that work, I’ve also witnessed a profound spiritual presence that emerges when we begin not only to understand ourselves, but to deconstruct the self beyond the ego. From that process can arise a new perception—one that offers immense peace on the other side of pain.
I want to pause on that word—pain. Having lost many loved ones and endured deep, soul-crushing grief, I also know there is no comparison to the pain that can come with a kundalini awakening or the dark night of the soul. These moments can be both “soul-crushing” and “soul-awakening”—as if all of your traumas resurface at once, urging you toward greater awareness. Sometimes these awakenings arrive suddenly and explosively; other times, they unfold slowly and painfully, much like grief itself.
Yet, through this process of awareness and purification, a profound transformation becomes possible. One day, you may come to see its purpose and recognize yourself through a lens you never imagined.
If there’s one truth I’ve learned, it’s that you cannot go through this journey alone. I meet you where you are—honoring your individuality and unique life experience—and together we co-create a space where you feel supported, seen, and less alone on this powerful path of awakening.
