With Emma Bragdon, PhD
renowned author of two classic books on Spiritual Emergency and a seasoned facilitator with 25+ years experience.
is a transformational crisis in which a person is so overwhelmed by psycho-spiritual experiences that he/she can no longer function well at work or within family and relationships. The spiritual experiences may be caused by spiritual practices like yoga and meditation, or other factors like near–death experience, fasting, trauma, grief, recreational drugs, the global crisis or even one’s natural gifts of intuition, etc. The symptoms of this crisis are often confused with symptoms of mental illness and, in this case, the individual will likely be treated with anti-psychotic drugs via bio-medically trained practitioners. Unfortunately, over time this protocol can harm the person in spiritual crisis, so a different kind of treatment is advised. The positive potential of the crisis (when well managed): a person who has more peace, empathy and clarity, is motivated by more wisdom and compassion, and wants to make a positive contribution to the world.
In The 5 Webinars You Learn:

A Pioneering Approach to Mental Health Care and
a Pathway to Optimal Well Being from Brazil
There is a spiritual group in Brazil that supports personal spiritual evolution in a contemporary way—and has a history dating back to Paris in the 1850s. This group now has c.13,000 community centers offering complementary therapies for free (in Brazil), as well as 50 psychiatric hospitals offering the full range of modern treatments for those who are emotionally disturbed. What’s unusual in the hospitals is that psychiatrists collaborate with medical intuitives for both diagnosis and treatment—and enhance the effectiveness of both.
Dr. Bragdon seasons her presentations with humor and personal stories. You will feel enriched by the information and more hopeful about the positive changes we can make in ourselves and in our mental healthcare to optimize wellbeing.

This webinar series is also the cornerstone for certification as either a healthcare provider with a specialty in spiritual emergency or a peer counselor with this specialty. After completion of this course you will receive a certificate of completion. Those who go on and complete the Practicum, Part Two, can apply for Certification as a Spiritual Emergence Coach® (SEC).
Live, interactive online webinars on a user-friendly platform compatible with all devices, followed by online discussion between students and facilitator, supportive videos, worksheets for self-reflection, some articles and suggested reading.
Webinars are July 5 – August 2, 2018, Thursdays from noon to 1:30pm EST (New York City Time). Live Meetups are on 2 Fridays: July 13 & July 27, noon -1:15pm EST (New York Time). All webinars and meetups will be recorded and can be watched/reviewed at your convenience.
Students who choose to go on can be considered for certification after they complete two courses–this online webinar series (Phase One) and the associated Practicum course (Phase Two) on How to Effectively Support Someone in Spiritual Emergency. The Practicum is offered live in the UK, EU and USA–sometimes other places when we can accommodate invitations– periodically throughout each year. Those who complete the two courses and satisfy our requirements listed in the application (ApplicationSEC2018) can be listed on the IMHU website Directory as a Spiritual Emergence Coach® (SEC). This listing will facilitate networking among providers, advance awareness of spiritual emergence phenomena throughout the world, as well as be a vehicle to announce your contact information for those looking for support for their journeys. Certification will be considered after completion of both courses, proven proficiency in the skills we teach, acceptance of the policies (IMHUpoliciesCoach_v6-5-2018) we stand for, and being accepted by IMHU after a final personal interview.

Q: What is a virtual or online course?
A: It’s a great way to engage live teachings and each other from the comfort of your home! All you need is either a stable internet connection to see the video webinars or a phone line. You can easily use the link we provide via internet to connect to zoom.us at no charge, and thus we can offer this webcast which is free to use from anywhere in the world.
We use zoom.us to make it just like an in-person event, where you can ask questions, participate in groups, and deepen your exploration of the course themes. The meetup format at zoom will allow us to see and hear each other. The webinar format allows for Q&A through a chatbox and only the presenter and slides are seen online.
Please note that dialing into zoom.us with phone numbers we provide may be a regular toll call; your telephone service provider will charge you according to your existing long-distance calling plan. We provide international numbers so you can often avoid long distance charges. Other options include calling cards and discount long-distance carriers.
I have never participated before in an online course. The packaging, presentation, inclusion, and Facebook postings created a wonderful, safe cocoon to participate. The wealth of organization and ease of learning materials and support made this fun as well. – an online student
